The .SE country-code domain extension was set up in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was very restrictive, so a very small number of domains were grabbed. Individuals were allowed to book no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a must, i.e. merely Swedish persons, commercial entities and organizations could grab a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, accordingly, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.
